Sandy Kids Vitamins

Because of widespread health issues such as childhood obesity in West Jordan, there has been a lot of discussion about BMI or Body Mass Index. However, some parents in the Sandy and Draper area aren’t quite sure what this number is, what it represents, and why it is important.

Each time you take your child to your Salt Lake City pediatrician for a well child check-up, you are given statistics regarding your child’s growth. BMI is a growth statistic that uses height and weight to estimate a person’s body fat.

BMI can then help Sandy parents and pediatricians know if a child’s weight is appropriate.

If your Draper area pediatrician does not measure BMI, there are many free calculators on the internet that are easy to use and can give you an accurate measure. Once you have a BMI calculated for your child, it’s a good idea to share this information with your child’s doctor and make any changes that your doctor recommends.

Children with a high BMI are usually instructed to:

Be active for at least 60 minutes each day
Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day for proper nutrition
Limit soda
Practice appropriate portion sizes
